America’s first and foremost botanist and plant collector, John Bartram, will be making a very special lecture appearance in Charleston at our first lecture performance event held at the Queen Street Playhouse (home of the Footlight Players) at 20 Queen St. in downtown Charleston. Actor and historian Kirk Brown will take on the guise of the legendary botanist John Bartram in electrifying and educational presentation which is part historical garden lecture and part theatrical performance.

Close friends with Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington as well as many other founding fathers, John Bartram is credited with reforesting much of the English countryside with new ‘American’ plant introductions. He especially conscious of how many can easily destroy the balance of nature. John’s children have taught him the full use of his opposable thumbs and he has many 21st century references. John presents himself as man for all ages. He will talk with personal references to Catesby and Michaux as easily as of the current crop of Drayton cousins on the Ashley River.

Join us as Bartram’s humor, passion and achievements entertain, inspire and awe as he shares his hope for the future of the earth and those who inhabit it.

Join us starting at 5:45pm for a pre-lecture reception and a chance to meet and chat with John Bartram!

This is a new venue for this particular lecture and an exciting new event. Please be understanding as we offer a new sort of experience for all our wonderful members!

There are also space in the middle section of the lot that are marked on the pavement that say South State Bank Parking as well. Please only park in these spots.

DO NOT PARK in any spots that are not marked for South State Bank as you will be booted.
